Maren Morris attends the 2019 CMT Music Awards at the Bridgestone Arena on June 5^ 2019 in Nashville^ Tennessee.

Maren Morris has teamed up with Julia Michaels for the new song, “Cut!”  The song is featured on Morris’s upcoming five-song project Intermission, set to drop on Aug. 2. Morris shared in a social media post“every good show needs an intermission  5 new songs out 8/2. cut! ft. @juliamichaels out”

Morris, 34, first teased fans to the upcoming collab with Michaels by posting a photo on social media of Morris and Michaels in a kitchen, with Michaels seated at a table and Morris standing atop the table and wielding a chainsaw. Morris captioned the photo: “cut! featuring @juliamichaels out friday. can’t wait to cathartically scream f*ck at the top of our lungs together.”  Michaels and Morris have previously collaborated, co-writing the song “Circles Around This Town” from Morris’ Humble Quest project (2022).

Morris added in a press release: “‘Cut!’ is about me holding myself together through the day, looking well-rested, not a hair out of place, not canceling any plans with friends because that’s how well I want you to think I’m doing. Perhaps those things are all true, but at night, I let the mask slip and let myself scream or fall apart to let the steam out of the kettle. It’s a cathartic release that doesn’t require secrecy, but there are worldly expectations to keep it together despite your feelings. This song gives me permission to fall apart.”

Morris also shared the track listing for Intermission, including the songs: “Cut!,” “I Hope I Never Fall in Love,” “Push Me Over,” “Because, Of Course,” and “This is How a Woman Leaves.” The new five-song set follows her Humble Quest LP, and her 2019 CMA album of the year, GIRL.
