One of the constant questions going around the Red Dirt music scene (after “When are The Turnpike Troubadours getting back together?”) is “What has Cody Canada been up to?”

It’s been over 2 years since we last got some new music from Cody Canada and The Departed, made up of former Cross Canadian Ragweed members Cody Canada and Jeremy Plato, with Eric Hansen on drums. Since then, former Ragweed band mates Grady Cross and Randy Ragsdale have teamed up with Jason Young as the trio Cross, Rags, and Young and released the song “Family Name”. Sure, The Departed have been playing shows (at least, as much as they can right now), but fans have been chomping at the bit for something new.

That drought is over now as the band has dropped a new single, “Hard as it Seems”. No word yet on when a new album will be coming out, but if this song is any indication it’s going to be pretty darn good.
