Inhofe Responds to President Obama's Speech

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) criticized President Obama's address to the nation on Tuesday evening.  Inhofe said, "President Obama was wrong to be against the war in the first place, he was incorrect about the surge, and he still fails to recognize the strategic importance of the United States being in Iraq."

Inhofe also said that the President should "be willing to dedicate more resources" to the war in Afghanistan.

Thunderstorm Causes Major Power Outage in Enid

A thunderstorm in Enid Tuesday Evening caused over 5,000 people to lose their power.  OG&E Electric Services said the power outage was caused by a microburst of strong winds from the storm.

Bank of Western Oklahoma to Unveil New Monument Tomorrow

The BOWO will unveil a new monument tomorrow with the them of "Binding Contract."  BOWO CEO and Controlling Owner, Jimmy Harrel, said that the monument was made to symbalize Western Oklahoman values and to commemerate his fellow co-owner of BOWO, and late cousin, Donald Harrel.

Roedell Wins Runoff Election

Tommy Roedell defeated Jeff McIntosh in the Republican runoff election for District 1 Woodward County Commissioner.  Roedell received 242 votes to McIntosh's 164 votes (winning by 20%).

Enid Bond Initiative Loses

The $20 million bond initiative to revitalize the downtown business area in Enid lost a close vote yesterday.  4,023 people (51%) voted against the initiative, while 3,892 (49%) voted for it.

Rohla Retains Cty. Commish Seat

In Major County, incumbent Travis Rohla retained his seat as District 3 county commissioner.

Aline-Cleo Public Schools get 1 of 2 Bond Issues Passed

A $180,000 transportation bond for Aline-Cleo Public Schools passed.  However, a $200,000 bond to pay off borrowed money that was used to complete the high school barely failed.  The $200,000 bond missed by 2 votes as it received 59.3% of the vote, and needed 60%.

Runoff Elections Tomorrow

The election of most interest in Woodward is between Tommy Roedell and Jeff McIntosh for County Commissioner. 

Enrollment Increases For Woodward Public Schools

Keeping class room sizes small has been a growing problem for Woodward public schools, and now it will only be tougher.  Enrollment grew by 58 students.  In 2009, enrollment was 2,593.  Headed into the current 2010-2011 school year, enrollment is 2,651.

Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Bust in Weatherford

The OBN arrested more than 50 people this weekend in a drug sting that has taken months to build up.  The drugs involved were methamphatamine, cocaine and marijuana.

Oklahoma Supreme Court Sets Insurance Commission Lawsuit Hearing Next Monday

Kim Holland, Oklahoam Insurance Commissioner, filed a lawsuit regarding the new Oklahoma Medicaid program.  Holland, and the commission, finds the law unconstitional.  The state supreme court will hear both sides of the argument next monday.
